Shade sail: attaching to house/vinyl siding?
Hello,
I want to install a triangular shade sail over my patio. My master question is how to attach it to my two story firm? Tin can i attach it straight to *frame under* the siding? The fascia/roof is too loftier up (see pics: attachment sites marked in blueish).
Any other comments recommendations on placement?

You cannot adhere to the siding simply you tin adhere to the framing behind it. Screw eye bolts are commonly used.

Cool, thanks! Yep, i meant the framing under the siding.
I was hoping an center hook or something of the sort would be strong enough. I was not certain what kind of framing is behind the siding or how much force those eye hooks tin withstand. I guess, if i attach correct on the corner end of the house, at that place should be expert support (not just plywood) underneath the siding to adhere to.
From what i read, the force from air current communicable the sail tin be pretty significant. Im not in a super windy area, simply nosotros practise occasionally get potent gusts during storms and would like it to be stiff in instance nosotros arent dwelling to take it down.

I looked into these a few years ago and ultimately we decided non to go with them, nonetheless the zipper information the manufacturer provided did not recommend screw blazon centre bolts.
They recommended rather big threaded eye bolts with support blocking and washers installed behind the primary building structural .
Every bit a notation, we were looking at rather large & heavy 30x20' triangular sails so unless you are installing something very minor I would go large and not loose any sleep!

There are hooks, rings and (recessed) D-rings that are mounted on a flat mounting plate that has four holes that would be stronger than a single-point screw eye. (I found this in a search for "marine hardware" https://www.e-rigging.com/quarter-in...SABEgJo9_D_BwE) Do a general search "foursquare pad heart" for more variations.
Use lag screws to mount through the vinyl into the framing behind.
I would try the eyebolt if it can go into the framing (non just the plywood) and if it pulls out supercede it with a plate mounted version.

If you want to exercise information technology properly the first footstep is to know what you will ballast into. Then calculate the load that structure can handle without harm. If you don't know what's in your walls then you're generally guessing and going on your expert judgement.
Consider that during a bad storm something may neglect due to the high wind loads. If you make your zipper to the house very potent you lot take chances damaging the house. If the attachment is of lower strength then it will rip out or intermission without doing major damage to your home.
I have iii shade sails at my home. I designed the system to prevent impairment to the business firm. In example of extreme winds the sails should shred first. If that doesn't happen then the canvass zipper hardware should fail. All before whatever damage tin occur to the house attachments.

In our situation all the business firm attachments would have been fabricated at the roof joists where access was avaialbe and blocking and backup washers were accessible.
Everything else was with steel posts!
